Taxpayers League Ghana on the Global Stage: From Berlin to Sydney to Kraków

Long before his election to the Board of the World Taxpayers Association in Kraków this month, Hopeson Adorye had been carrying Ghana’s flag at gatherings of the global taxpayer movement. These photographs capture some of those moments.

Berlin, March 2016

The World Taxpayers Conference held in Berlin from 17 to 20 March 2016 brought together taxpayer associations from across the globe under the theme “Low Taxes and Good Governance: Necessities in an Uncertain World”. Discussions ranged from tax competition and public debt to transparency in government spending — issues that resonate strongly in Ghana.

Sydney, 2019

In 2019 Mr. Adorye travelled to Sydney, Australia, for the 17th Biennial World Taxpayers Conference, held alongside the #Friedman19 Liberty Conference and hosted with the Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance. Delegates exchanged practical lessons on budget scrutiny, campaigning against wasteful spending and building grassroots taxpayer movements.

Why it matters for Ghana

Ghana’s fiscal challenges are not unique. Around the world, citizens are asking the same questions: Are taxes fair? Is public money being spent wisely? Who is accountable when it is not? By participating in the global network, Taxpayers League Ghana learns from proven approaches elsewhere — and ensures that African realities, from the informal economy to the cost of debt servicing, are part of the international conversation.

With a seat on the WTA Board, that voice is now stronger than ever. Join the League and be part of it.
