What We Do

Education, budget scrutiny, research and advocacy for fair taxes and accountable spending.

Our programmes

Turning taxpayer concern into informed action

Our work is organised around six programme areas. Each one is designed to help citizens understand public finance, protect their rights and influence the decisions that shape their lives.

Taxpayer Education

Community workshops, school and campus talks, radio and social-media explainers, and plain-language guides on taxes such as PAYE, VAT and the levies Ghanaians pay every day. We help people understand what they owe, what they are entitled to and how to engage the revenue authorities with confidence.

Budget & Spending Watch

Each year we analyse the national Budget Statement, the mid-year review and the Auditor-General’s reports, and publish simple briefings on what they mean for households and businesses. We track major projects and highlight waste, leakage and value-for-money concerns.

Policy Research & Advocacy

We develop evidence-based proposals for a tax system that is broad-based, simple, predictable and fair — one that encourages compliance and investment. We share our findings with Parliament, ministries, the Ghana Revenue Authority, the media and development partners.

Taxpayer Rights Desk

Practical guidance for individuals and small businesses who feel they have been treated unfairly — from understanding an assessment to knowing how the objection and appeal process works. We point people to the right channels and advocate for a stronger taxpayers’ charter.

Know your rights

SMEs & the Informal Sector

Small enterprises and informal workers are the backbone of Ghana’s economy. We promote simple filing, fair presumptive regimes and better services so that formalising a business is rewarding rather than risky.

International Engagement

Through the World Taxpayers Associations network we learn from taxpayer movements around the world and bring African experiences to global debates on taxation, public expenditure and economic development.

Our approach

Research. Educate. Engage. Advocate.

1. Research

We start with the facts — budgets, audit reports, laws and the lived experience of taxpayers.

2. Educate

We translate complex fiscal information into clear, practical knowledge for citizens.

3. Engage

We bring citizens, businesses and officials together through forums, consultations and dialogue.

4. Advocate

We press constructively for reforms that make taxes fairer and spending more accountable.
