KRAKÓW, POLAND — 5 OCTOBER 2026. Ghanaian public advocate and international governance campaigner Hopeson Adorye has been elected to the Board of Directors of the World Taxpayers Association (WTA) at the Association’s conference in Kraków, Poland.
The election marks a significant addition to Mr. Adorye’s growing international leadership engagements and provides a platform for Ghanaian and African perspectives to contribute to global discussions on taxpayer rights, responsible taxation, transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources.
Mr. Adorye expressed his appreciation to the members and leadership of the World Taxpayers Association for the confidence placed in him.
“I am deeply honoured by this confidence and conscious of the responsibility that comes with it. Taxpayers are at the heart of every economy, and they deserve fairness, transparency, accountability and value for the taxes they pay. I look forward to working with colleagues from across the world to strengthen the voice of taxpayers and promote responsible fiscal governance.”
Taxation as a social contract
Mr. Adorye believes taxation should not be viewed solely as a mechanism for raising government revenue, but also as an important component of the social contract between citizens and the state.
According to him, governments have a responsibility to ensure that taxes are collected fairly and that public resources are utilised efficiently to deliver quality infrastructure, healthcare, education, security and other essential services.
His election also creates an opportunity to bring African experiences and perspectives into international conversations about taxation, public expenditure and economic development.
International leadership
Mr. Adorye’s international leadership experience includes serving as Global Board Chairman of the International Youth Network for UN Security Council Resolution 2250, an NGO associated with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
He is expected to use his new position to contribute to initiatives that promote fiscal accountability, taxpayer education, good governance and stronger citizen participation in public financial management.
The election took place during the World Taxpayers Association Conference in Kraków, Poland, bringing together taxpayer advocates and organisations engaged in promoting responsible taxation and taxpayer interests internationally.
Mr. Adorye described his new responsibility as both a personal honour and an opportunity to contribute to a broader global cause.
“This is not simply a position; it is a responsibility to help build a stronger and more accountable relationship between taxpayers and governments.”
