Paying taxes to develop a nation is something everybody should be encouraged to do wherever you find yourself but very painful to see your taxes in individuals pocket through thievery and corruption.
Taxpayers League Ghana is saddened with the New Year’s gift of high fuel increases from the President of the Republic of Ghana to a Ghanaian taxpayer as we begin the year 2016.
Crude oil prices have been stable on the world market as compared to some years back when it moved up to $140 per barrel. As we speak it’s less than $50 per barrel but President John Mahama finds it prudent to slap the taxpayer with this astronomical increases.
The increase which is between 22% to 28% on petroleum products is just unfair on the taxpayer. Water has been increased to 59% under President Mahama, electricity 67% and fuel 25%. Where did we go wrong as a nation?
Our immediate concerns and that of the ordinary Ghanaian taxpayer is that, will the government ensure judicial use of these taxes?
Taxpayers League Ghana therefore condemns this increase as our new year gift.
